The People’s National Party (PNP), general secretary Peter Bunting is predicting that his party will regain dominance of parish councils islandwide after the Local Government polls.
The polls are due to be held by March 30 this year and Bunting said the PNP is ready.
According to Bunting, the PNP will win eight of the councils and the Jamaica Labour Party five.
In the 2007 local Government polls, the JLP won nine of the councils and the PNP three, while a tie was declared in St Ann.
Based on the results of the 2011 general election, the PNP appears to be the favourite to take the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation from the JLP.
The PNP won in 21 divisions in the national polls compared with the 18 won by the JLP.
Kintyre, located in East Rural St. Andrew, contributed an equal number of votes to the two parties.
The 10 divisions in St. Thomas were evenly split by the PNP and JLP, while Portland saw the JLP polling most votes in six of the nine divisions.
The PNP triumphed in seven of the 13 divisions in St. Mary, and was strong in St. Ann, winning 10 of the 16 divisions.
In Trelawny, the JLP won nine of 13 divisions, nine of the 17 in St. James and four of the seven in Hanover but lost all 14 in Westmoreland.
St. Elizabeth was narrowly won eight to seven by the PNP.
In Manchester, the PNP won nine divisions to the six of the JLP, as well as 22 of the 41 divisions in St Catherine.
The 11 divisions in Clarendon were equally shared among the two major political parties.
