Electronic voting malfunctions
Glitches with the Electronic Identification of the Voter and Ballot Issuing System (EIVBIS) yesterday caused long waiting periods for electors who turned out to vote in at least two divisions in the Corporate Area.
When The Gleaner visited the Whitehall and Duhaney Park divisions, angry voters complained of waiting for long periods before they could cast their votes.
"In my family, 37 of us are here to vote but only one person vote from morning," said an angry voter who was at the St. Patrick Foundation Community Centre in Callaloo Mews. "Dem a hold up our time. Imagine wi deh yah fi hours."
Another angry voter said the slow pace at which voting was moving was a deliberate ploy to prevent her from voting for the candidate of her choice.
The candidates for the Duhaney Park division are the People's National Party's (PNP) Kevin Taylor and the Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) Joyce Ann Young.

"Me come out here since 8:00 o'clock this morning, the system rotten, dem a sabotage wi and a pure ginnalship," said the elector.
Member of Parliament for the area, Anthony Hylton, was equally upset. He said the same problem occurred in the general election, which was held on September 3.
"Rather than seeing an improvement, we are seeing the same thing. People are turning back saying that they have been waiting an hour in the line," complained Hylton.
In the Whitehall division, at the St. Richard's Primary School on Red Hills Road, voters were also frustrated with the delay in casting their votes.
"Dem a move slow, yuh know how long mi deh ya so!" said an angry voter.
Kevin Reid of the PNP and Lee Clarke of the JLP are the candidates for the division.
According to the Electoral Office of Jamaica supervisor at the St. Patrick Foundation Community Centre, the machine had problems identifying voters who were not re-verified.
