Low turnout trend continues
- posted: 2003-06-19 17:55:12

The voters continue to make their way slowly to the polls during the Parish Council elections.

In the Newport division of South Manchester, polling divisions recorded low turnouts. In one division, out of 318 voters on the list, at 4:00 pm, only 75 of them had showed up. In another, of the 240 persons registered, only 78 had done so at 4:00pm. With polls closing at 5pm, there is no indication that there will be a rush at the end of the day.

Meanwhile, in Western St. Thomas, voting was reported as quiet with no evidence of any wrongdoing on the part of any voters. Party supporters from both major political parties could be seen parading their colours in an orderly fashion. Votes cast in the divisions of Yallahs, Seaforth, Cedar Valley, White Horses and Trinityville will be counted at the Yallahs Courthouse.

The trend of low-keyed voting activity continued in the south-western parish of St. Elizabeth. There are three divisions at stake; New Market, Ipswich and Lacovia.
