ST.
ANN: THIRTY-FOUR
candidates, 11 of whom were women, were nominated last Friday
to represent the 16 divisions in the St. Ann Parish Council.
It
was mostly peaceful in the four St. Ann constituencies throughout
the day with supporters of both major political parties coming
out in their numbers. The JLP candidates were the first to
hand in nomination papers in both Southeast and Northeast
St. Ann constituencies.
Of
the 34 candidates, 20 will be facing the polls for the first
time, while 10 are sitting councillors along with two Independent
candidates including a sitting JLP councillor.
The
list in St. Ann, however, excluded both Charles Tait and Luther
Spence, both Mayor of St. Ann's Bay and deputy mayor, respectively.
The two were rejected by delegates at recent conferences in
the Bamboo and Claremont divisions, respectively.
