A
peaceful campaign encouraged

A
TOTAL of 10 candidates were nominated to represent the People's
National Party (PNP) and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in
the upcoming Local Government election on June 19 in the five
divisions in south west St. Catherine constituency. At 12:30
p.m. four men and one woman were nominated by the JLP with
strong JLP support headed by M.P. Everal Warmington.
Less
than an hour later the PNP nominated four men and one woman
to contest the five divisions in the constituency, with the
former MP Jennifer Edwards heading the delegation. For the
Old Harbour north Ralston John Wilson, incumbent PNP is up
against Israel Hyatt for the JLP. Audley Campbell is up against
Ainsworth Frankson of the JLP for the Old Harbour central
division. In the meantime Phillip Broomfield PNP is up against
Hilda Johnson incumbent for the JLP in the Old Harbour south
division. In the Sydenham division Maureen Scott PNP incumbent
is up against Lloyd Grant of the JLP.
In
the last Local Government election the PNP won three divisions
and the JLP two in the south west St. Catherine constituency.
Returning Officer John Matthews commended the political parties
for the support given and he encouraged them to continue the
peaceful campaign in the constituency.
