The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) yesterday congratulated the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) on being voted in by the Jamaican electorate to head the next government.
The Mark Myers-led JCC said that, as the nation gets ready to begin a new era under new leadership, it expected the new government to be one of implementation and action.
"To this end, we are desirous of working closely with the new leadership, in a spirit of collaboration, to put Jamaica on a path to economic growth and job creation," the chamber said.
"However, we believe the planning process can only be successful if the JCC - as the representative body of the business community - is invited to participate in the planning process at a very early stage."
Winning candidates
The chamber also congratulated winning candidates of the People's National Party (PNP).
At the same time, the leaders of the Church in Jamaica congratulated the JLP. In a statement, the Jamaica Council of Churches also commended all successful candidates in Monday's general election.
"In the same vein, we wish to salute the PNP for contributing to a spirited and competitive campaign, and we look forward to their continued input in the development of our beloved country," the council said. "We extend good wishes to all unsuccessful candidates and pray that the desire to serve, which motivated them to offer themselves for leadership, will find expression in other areas of national life."
It added: "The Church leaders call upon all Jamaicans to accept the final results of the elections, whenever they are released by the EOJ, as reflecting the mind of the people of Jamaica, and we encourage respect for all persons as well as our national symbols and offices."
