Do or die for both leaders

WITH BOTH leaders having been elevated to their respective positions to secure victory for their party in the elections, failure at the polls may end their political careers, analysts say.
According to a Gleaner-commissioned Bill Johnson poll, Simpson Miller's favourability rating has dipped from 54 per cent in June to 50 per cent when Johnson and his team of researchers last went into the field on August 25 and 26.
On the other hand, the favourability rating of Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leader Bruce Golding has risen from 35 per cent in June to 46 per cent in the latest poll.
The person who captains the losing team may succumb to a leadership challenge in the party and could end up like Sir Donald Sangster and Hugh Shearer, the only party leaders never to have won a mandate from the Jamaican people.
