G2K launches 'campaign train'

GENERATION 2000 (G2K), the group of young professionals aligned to the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), says it will be campaigning in marginal constituencies, in an effort to swing youth votes to the Opposition party.

Chairman of the group, Dr. David Panton, made the disclosure during the launch of the group's 'campaign train' at Belmont Road, New Kingston yesterday. The 'campaign train' is a 40-ft open-back truck, decorated with green posters of youth leaders in the JLP as well as green balloons.

Dr. Panton said the group's campaign will be winding its way mostly through central parishes. With JLP Leader Edward Seaga focusing on the party's campaign in northern parishes and Bruce Golding assisting deputy leaders in southern parishes, Dr. Panton argued that G2K's focus would complement the party's general thrust to bring out voters who might be wavering at this time.

He said the election train will be in Half-Way-Tree on Sunday night for the party's mass rally as well as Montego Bay on October 13, where there will be a final mass rally before the October 16 poll.
